Acupuncture is the practice of penetrating the skin with thin, solid, metallic needles which are then activated through gentle and specific movements of the practitioner's hands or with electrical stimulation.

Acupuncture is part of the ancient practice of Traditional Chinese medicine. Traditional Chinese medicine practitioners believe the human body has more than 2,000 acupuncture points connected by pathways or meridians. These pathways create an energy flow (Qi, pronounced "chee") through the body that is responsible for overall health. Disruption of the energy flow can cause disease. By applying acupuncture to certain points, it is thought to improve the flow of Qi, thereby improving health.

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy is a hands-on skill learned through a 2 year program with clinical practice and ongoing continuing education courses required. A massage therapist will use their hands or other tools to manipulate the body’s tissue in a manner that is conducive to optimal healing. Massage therapy is useful during rehabilitation after an injury, prevention of aches and pains, and for general relaxation and stress reduction.

What does it mean for my massage therapist to be “Registered”?

Massage therapists must choose an applicable association to register with after graduation. The main associations here are The Massage Therapists Association of Alberta (MTAA), Natural Health Practitioners of Canada (NHPC) and Canadian Massage & Manual Osteopathic Therapists Association (CMMOTA) which guide their members with standards of practice and code of ethics. Both our massage therapists are registered and fulfill their obligations to continually learn and provide safe and effective treatments for their clients.
